Harvey Norman accused of using Australian Timber for their Furniture
Category: Blog

I was interested in early July to see the debate growing over Harvey Norman’s use of Australian Timber for their furniture. I love Australian timber and always specify it in preference to imported timber if I can. Gerry Harvey defended their position with the argument that they were “Trying to keep an Industry going in Australia”. Which industry would that be? Whether the timber be recycled or from plantation is really only part of the issue. The environmental costs of shipping the timber from Australia to China and then shipping it back as furniture combined with the implications to our local manufacturing industries are I believe of equal concern.

  1. I wish more people would write sites like this that are actually helpful to read. With all the fluff floating around on the net, it is rare to read a site like yours instead.
